🔥 Have you noticed that summers are getting hotter lately? Extreme weather and strong typhoons seem to be more frequent? These issues are actually related to the carbon emissions each of us generate every day. On top of that, large-scale deforestation is causing even more damage to the planet. Although the government has introduced eco-friendly measures like “waste reduction and plastic elimination,” the loss of trees is still a significant environmental concern.
🌳 According to 2022 data, Hong Kong’s total greenhouse gas emissions amount to about 33.5 million metric tons of CO2 equivalent. A single tree can absorb approximately 24 kilograms of CO2 per year. With 7.5 million people in Hong Kong, if each person planted a tree, it would absorb 180 million kilograms, or 180,000 metric tons of CO2! That’s equivalent to the carbon absorption of 1,700 Victoria Parks in Hong Kong!
🌿 Negawatt, the mother company of ZERO2, launched an environmental project in 2023 at the Mkingu Nature Forest Reserve in Tanzania. Mkingu is a key ecotourism spot with a diverse rainforest ecosystem. However, recent illegal logging, agricultural expansion, and fires pose threats to the forest.
